Early in the morning, around 4:30-5:00 am, we will pick you up from your accommodation. Our first stop will be Cusipata, which will take about an hour and a half. Here, we will enjoy breakfast before continuing our journey.
We will then travel along an unpaved road for an hour and a half, passing by the stunning Pomacanchi Lagoon, one of the area’s largest bodies of water. The lagoon is surrounded by pastures and agricultural fields, offering beautiful views along the way. Afterward, we will arrive in Santa LucĂa, where we will take a final 15-minute drive to the start of our hike.
The hike to Waqrapukara will take about an hour and a half. Along the way, we will witness breathtaking views of the Apurimac Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in Peru, and dramatic landscapes with cliffs all around us. Once we arrive at the Waqrapukara lookout point, we will pause briefly to take in the incredible fortress, perched on the canyon’s edge, and capture our first photos.
We will then descend along a steep, cliffside path for about 10 minutes into the site itself, where we will spend approximately an hour and a half exploring the ruins. Here, we can climb through the remains of the temple, take photos against the stunning canyon backdrop, and relax on clifftops in the shadow of the stone walls.
When we are ready to leave, we will begin our ascent back to our vehicle, following the same route we took earlier. After about an hour and a half of hiking, we will reach the vehicle and return to Cusco around 7:00 pm.
