As we descend from Abra Capuliyoc, we’ll make our way towards the roaring Apurimac River, crossing a bridge that takes us to Santa Rosa. After approximately 5 hours of invigorating hiking, we’ll venture through the captivating agricultural terraces of Pinchinoyoc, where diverse bird species, vibrant orchids, and local coca plantations will enchant our senses. Nestled at 3000 MASL – 9842 FASL, our campsite sets the stage for a memorable evening in the heart of nature’s embrace.
Awakening on the hillside to the enchanting symphony of the forest and the melodious songs of birds is a truly remarkable experience that invigorates the soul! After nourishing ourselves with a delicious breakfast, we embark on our upward journey, immersing ourselves in a landscape adorned with lush green vegetation. With determination and the favor of the gods, we may be blessed with a clear sky that allows us to simply sit and marvel at the majestic snow-capped mountains that embrace us. Today’s uphill climb spans approximately 7 hours, and as we ascend, we encounter remnants of history in the form of archaeological remains and Inca channels that bear witness to the significance of this trail.
Our path leads us past the awe-inspiring Incan mines known as Minas Victoria, where silver was once extracted in abundance. Pressing forward, we set our sights on the renowned Victoria Pass, reaching an impressive elevation of 4,200 meters above sea level (13,773 feet).
